Imitation of Akira Yoshizawa
Origami is an art form that has always interested me due to its beauty and complexity. Complex creations such as animals and statues have been made with the paper folding technique known as origami. The size of the pieces tends to vary dramatically in size and complexity resulting in some pieces taking a year or more to make. When choosing which artist to imitate I figured Akira Yoshizawa was the clear choice simply because he is the considered by many to be the grandmaster of origami. He is credited with raising origami from a craft to a living art and he has created over 50,000 pieces. When trying to figure out what piece to make I decided to make an elephant because that is one of my favorite animals and it presented a good challenge. Yoshizawa was not known for animal pieces but he paved the way for animal pieces to become popular.
