Engineering

Since the dawn of time and human ingenuity, the creative domain of creation and innovation has been a necessity for human evolution, and survival. Whether you're talking about the creation of modern creations, such as the iPhone or the roller coaster, or the creation of fire and the first use of tools, all of those creations and everything in between, were all created by engineers.

Although the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines an engineer as a person who has scientific training and who designs and builds complicated products, machines, systems, or structures, an engineer is much more than that. Defined in its simplest terms, an engineer is a problem-solver. They take a problem that they, or society, face and they look for a solution based on the resources that they have. Cavemen were faced with the issue of surviving in the cold. I don’t know how or when, but someone took the resources that they had and created fire. Now in modern society you see the demand for technological advances in cell-phones. Apple looks at that problem, takes the resources needed to solve the problem, and solve it by creating a completely revolutionary and innovative phone.

Engineers are also extremely resourceful. When an engineer is asked to create a bridge, they are given extremely strict parameters for the amount of space the bridge will span, as well as the amount of money they have to work with. Engineers take all of the restrictions and are able to make the best of the situation. Engineers will maximize their space, and minimize cost, in the creation of something.

Finally, Engineers are innovative. A good engineer looks to do something that has never been done before. They are always digging for new information that can help them to stay two steps ahead of their opponents. Engineers examine and analyze the societal wants and needs, and create the solutions to meet these needs of society. Engineers are the creators of everything we use in modern day.

Engineers are a necessity to make the world go round. Without their thoughts and ingenuity, we would not have most of the things that we have today. Engineers work as the ultimate thinker. They utilize their problem-solving abilities, resourcefulness and ingenuity to create everything from toilet paper to the golden-gate bridge. The creative abilities of engineers are unmatched to that of any other. Not only have they been trained rigorously in order to gain the skills necessary to do what they do, they are always thinking one step ahead of everyone else. That’s something that can’t be taught.
