Blog post 5 (reflection)

Creativity is something I've realized is rampant in my family. One of my sisters is currently taking classes for writing at New York University and my other sister is very active in faith. My father puts together different kinds of bikes like a piece of art, and my mother has always been an excellent writer. But with me I have started to understand that I have to try harder to be creative. It does not come very naturally to me, and its something I strive to improve at. This project was very different from the projects we had done in the past, and I have to say I really like this style a lot. With that said, I'd say my favorite part of this assignment was blog post 3 where we had to imitate someone within the field we are studying. Since I am studying origami I got to make an elephant out of paper, which had its challenges but was rewarding and taught me some things are a lot harder then others. The hardest part of this assignment was definitely the 4th post because we didn't really have any set guidelines. The post was pretty much whatever you wanted to do and it gave a lot of room for creativity. Having to choose what to do ourselves really made us think creatively and allowed us to test the boundaries. The only thing in this project I would consider doing differently is have a day before any of the posts are due where you practicing citing citations in the correct format. This is something we are having to use more often these days and having a good understanding of it would really help on this project. Also, tell the students that using a book or other in hand resources is really a great way to find information opposed to the internet. My chosen field really wasn't important to me before I started looking into and finding out new things about origami. The main reason it became important to me was because I find myself feeling kind of like origami. What I mean by that is sometimes people don't really understand me and they don't take the time to get to know me. Origami doesn't really get the respect it deserves because it looks easy to do but in actuality it is not easy at all. My imitative piece is different from my original work in that the subject matter was very different. the original piece was not an animal where as my piece was an elephant. I would say I really do feel flow in my creative process because origami is something that relaxes me and kind of allows me to unwind. Also, the feeling I got from making the pink elephant was quite rewarding and it made me feel good about myself and the art I had made. One piece I really admired of my classmates was the tattoo design. Tattoos have a special place in my heart as I have two of my own. The design he made was very unique and it had a certain beauty to it. Creativity to me is trying something in a new or different way. When someone wants to change something or add to it I think that is a good example of creativity. If we didn't have creative people who found new ways to do things we probably never would have evolved as human beings. So basically origami made us who we are today.
